Motorola G84 5G Review
Now let’s take a closer look at the Motorola G84 5G.
Display and Build
While the 6.50-inch 120Hz pOLED display is good with 1300 nits brightness is a rare combination at this price tag. This is a 10-bit HDR10+ panel. That said, it supports Wide Wine L1 so you can have a great time playing games or even watching movies on Netflix, but unfortunately, there is no HDR support on any OTT platform.
The in-display fingerprint sensor works just like any other optical sensor, so you don’t have to worry about it. Finally, Motorola switched from side-mounted to built-in displays. This is always a good thing since it’s a 20k phone.
Motorola G84 Design
So, choose whether you want the back to be leather or plastic. Keep in mind that the price is the same for both models. Motorola has also added IP54, which means it is resistant to dust and water splashes. The good news is that the Motorola G84 5G has a 3.5mm audio jack along with decent stereo speakers.
That’s right. The display is perfect for the price it comes with. The build quality isn’t top-notch, but it’s not bad either.
Camera of Moto G82 5G
Cameras have long been a weak point of Motorola smartphones, and there’s nothing new about the Motorola G84 5G. Now the good news is that the cameras have been improved on the Motorola G82 5G, but it’s not a huge upgrade.
The 50MP primary sensor captures good images and tries to maintain a neutral look without enhancing the colours too much. There are details too, and the good news is that Motorola didn’t add any white color to the human subjects. This means the image will be closer to the real image.
This is all good in sunlight, but in low light, the dynamic range isn’t perfect or too bad. It needs some improvement and I think the camera will get better since Motorola said, we have created a new R&D team for the camera, especially for users.
The Moto G84 5G also has a working OIS, but it’s not the best and is only for showcase purposes. OIS is not completely neutral in any domain. The 8MP ultra-wide lens is a solid lens that delivers the best images under bright light, but the sensor struggles a lot in low light.
This is nothing new. Most 8MP ultra-wides struggle in low-light environments. Talking about the 16MP front camera, like other front cameras it adds white tones and a little extra color, which can be justified since that’s what most users want.
Now you can play around with the settings, but no one is going to spend 10 minutes adjusting them just to take one photo.
Snapdragon 695 5G does not support 4K video recording, so the front camera is fixed at 1080p@30fps and the rear camera is fixed at 1080p@60fps.
Performance of Moto G84 5G
The Snapdragon 695 5G isn’t a bad processor by any angle, but it’s just an older SoC that isn’t powerful enough for heavy gamers who play games for hours on end.
In short, if you are planning to buy a gaming smartphone, stay away from the Motorola G84 5G and consider the other gaming smartphones that under 200 dollars less than the G84 5G. Still, for general gaming, the Motorola G84 5G is not a bad choice, but don’t expect strong performance.
It runs on MyUX based on Android 13, and Motorola has only promised one year of OS updates and three years of security updates.
Android 14 is coming soon and is expected to be officially released within the next month. That’s right. There is no point in providing only one OS update in this move.
Now the good news is that there are no ads in the UI. You get a clean Android experience with a few extra features that Motorola has added to the UI.
Audio of the phone
The Motorola G84 5G has a 3.5mm audio jack along with stereo speakers which are great for the price. 40% of the volume comes from the top speaker and the remaining 60% comes from the bottom speaker. That’s right. You will be much more satisfied with the quality of the speakers that Motorola has used in this phone.
Motorola G84 5G phone Battery life
The 5,000mAh battery will last for 1.5 days, but if you’re a power-hungry user who spends hours on everything – gaming, watching movies, video calling – you’ll need to charge the Motorola G84 5G twice a day. A 33W wired charger is included in the box.
Conclusion: Is it worth buying Motorola G84 5G in 2023?
Yes, the Motorola G84 5G is worth buying as it has everything: a decent camera, long-lasting battery life, 120Hz pOLED display, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers, and 256GB storage.
Keep in mind that now 12GB RAM is virtual and physical RAM is only 8GB. Still, I think it’s rare that it offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for under $300.
Virtual RAM is a marketing ploy and does not improve performance. Therefore, it is not recommended to select virtual RAM.
Nonetheless, Motorola G84 5G is a perfect smartphone for everyday use and you will not face any kind of problem. However, if you face any problem you should have a look at Troubleshooting Guide: Fixing Common Problems with Motorola Phones.
