About Motorola Moto G Power 2022
Motorola’s G-series handsets topped the list of cheapest phones for years, but the 2021 lineup didn’t exceed expectations. The first entry in the company’s 2022 lineup, the Moto G Power (2022), puts Motorola back on track. The affordable Moto G Power 2022 easily lasts two days.
Motorola Moto G Power (2022) Review
Innocent design and build quality
The Moto G Power 2022 boasts a fingerprint sensor integrated into the stylized M logo on the back and IP52 certification for dust and water resistance. Moto G Power measures 6.6 x 3.0 x 0.4 inches (HWD) and 7.2 ounces. However, it distributes the weight well throughout the plastic chassis.
Plus, the phone’s textured, matte black back feels snug in hand and helps with grip, with no visible fingerprints or blemishes. A small cutout for the 8MP selfie camera is located near the top of the display in the center.
Close-up hole punch smartphone display. The headphone jack is on the phone’s top edge, while the bottom has a USB-C charging port and speakers. The combo SIM and microSD slots are the only ports on the left, while the volume rocker and textured power button are on the right.
The buttons are easily identifiable but difficult to touch with small hands. The phone’s durability is on par with other models in a similar price range.
The plastic bag and chassis will likely handle the drop without significant damage, but the tempered glass panel cannot be said the same. An IP52 rating means it should take rain, splashes, and sweat without problems but won’t withstand drops from a pool or sink.
Average Display
The flat 6.5-inch LCD offers the exact 1600×720 resolution (269 PPI) as the 2021 Moto G Power but with a faster 90Hz refresh rate.
However, the 720p resolution is the biggest downside here. The screen displays the correct colors, but if you look closely, you can see that there are a few pixels.
The viewing angles are good, but I wish the panel were a little brighter, as it’s hard to see under direct sunlight.
Beautiful Camera
The primary sensor on the Moto G Power’s rear camera module comes at 50MP and has an f/1.8 aperture. Quad binning is on by default. The camera produces sharp 12.5MP shots with a 1.3μm pixel pitch. The camera module also has a 2MP macro and depth lens with the same f/2.4 aperture as last year’s model.
The 50MP primary lens works well in good lighting. Test photos look sharp with monochromatic accuracy and natural depth of field.
Naturally, the 2MP macro lens is a disappointment. The test photos looked flat and found significant streaks around the edges of the objects. A good light source and a steady hand will give you better results.
The front 8MP sensor works well in bright light. Test selfies show natural depth and sharp foreground detail. However, the tones look warm, and some fine details are lost. It also struggled with noise and delicate details in low light.
G Power’s portrait mode works just fine. The depth sensor helps create natural bokeh, while the object mapping still has issues around the hat and ears.
Powerful performance
The Moto G Power (2022) comes with a MediaTek Helio G37 chipset and 4GB of RAM. The base model comes with 64GB of storage. The great thing about this phone is that it supports up to 512GB of external storage via a microSD card slot.
The G Power boots up quickly, and there is no lag when swiping between screens or opening apps. A 90Hz refresh rate is also a helpful addition. The buttons are easily recognizable by touch but can be challenging to reach for people with small hands.
The G Power is suitable for essential work, but it’s not a gaming phone. However, you can play low-end games smoothly.
Experience the loudspeaker
The Moto G 2022 doesn’t even have the best audio. The manufacturer doesn’t list the speaker specs, just bottom port speakers with w/smart PA and two microphones. The speakers are rather loud, large enough to be heard in the entire large room but noticeably small and empty.
When listening to music through the phone’s speakers, the bass is minimal, the mids are muffled, and the treble is very heavy. Adjusting any audio settings doesn’t seem to solve the problem. The audio was still rich and refined in the treble.
Fortunately, the audio from the phone speakers is poor, so you can use a 3.5mm jack or a Bluetooth 5.0 connection to connect headphones or speakers.
It offers Great Connectivity and Carrier.
This phone is a new release, but don’t expect 5G. We are not yet at the point where all low-end phones on the market will have 5G.
Moto G Power works on 4G LTE (Cat13), 3G (UMTS/HAPA+), and 2G (GSM/EDGE) networks. A locked version is available with some carriers, and an unlocked version with most major US and Canadian carriers.
The Moto G Power doesn’t have 5G but has Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi. While the Moto hit 156.5 Mbps (downloads) from the exact location, the Wi-Fi doesn’t seem to perform as well as the other devices.
Enough battery power to last longer
The battery life of this phone is phenomenal and one of its biggest strengths. Motorola claims that a 5,000mAh battery should last about three days. With continued use, it could last two days. We are impressed that this battery lasted about two days while the trading application could run continuously.
If you use the Moto G 2022 a little more conservatively, take it once in your waking hours, check your email, and surf the web for a while, and the battery will last up to 4 days. Regular usage it I,f tuf to let the storm drain faster.
An Amazing operating system
It wouldn’t be too disappointing if the Moto G Power came with Android 12 and all the exciting new features, but it isn’t. Instead, you can upgrade to Android 12 at some point in the future to get Android 11.
The G Power 2022 comes with native Android, but Motorola adds My UX. Motorola’s lightweight My UX offers several useful new features and lets you customize your phone’s quick settings and home screen.
A key feature of My UX, Moto Gestures, gives you quick access to standard features with different movements of your phone.
For example, you can make a gecko gesture with your wrist to quickly turn on a flashlight or flip the phone to activate Do Not Disturb.
