The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 is an impressive phone that continues to set the standard for other flip phones. The 4-inch cover screen is more useful than ever, and it’s clear that Motorola has put more thought into the software. The camera and battery life are also much improved. However, there are some issues with the overall software experience, and some may not like the switch from ultra-wide to telephoto. Overall, the Razr Plus 2024 is a great phone to consider for your next purchase.
Differences between Motorola Razr and Razr Plus 2024
With the Motorola Razr+ 2024 and Razr shipping on the same day, you might be wondering which one you should buy. There is a $300 difference between them and there are a few reasons why.
The Motorola Razr 2024 adopts last year’s Razr+ screen. It’s still smaller than the Razr+ (2024), but not by much. The Razr uses a MediaTek 7300X instead of a Qualcomm processor. Although the performance hit is noticeable, the Razr still performs decently.
The Razr loses the AI features of the Razr+, most notably in the camera. Razr+ uses AI to automatically process and organize your photos, which makes a pretty big difference in the final photo.
Both phones have the same 50-megapixel sensor, but AI post-processing makes a big difference. This is why the Razr’sRazr’sa quality suffers compared to its flagship cousin.
One of the nice things about the Razr is that it includes an ultra-wide sensor. So, if you are one of those who will miss the sensor, you may want to consider a cheaper phone. I think the trade-off for a single sensor is pretty big, but your mileage may vary.
This comes down to the difference between a good flagship camera and a good midrange camera. This is a pretty big difference, but in good lighting, the difference becomes much narrower.

Motorola Razr Plus (2024) Review
Design
Once again, style is the cornerstone of Razr’s identity, setting it apart from every other phone you see in the real world. The soft grip of the vegan leather and all the striking colors are eye-catching. Not only is the aestheticit’s-catching, but it’s still incredibly light at 6.66 ounces. It has a very thin profile, only 0.27 inches thick when opened.
Motorola has also improved the Razr Plus’s durability with a better IPX8 rating and Gorilla Victus Glass protecting the outer screen and the way the screen. That’s because the new Razr Plus folding mechanism is much faster, providing a satisfying snap when closing and opening. It feels very similar to the old Razr.
This is because the hinge is 30% smaller, and, interestingly, the crease in the center of the display is also mini. It’s still noticeable at certain angles but nowhere near as noticeable as the wrinkles on the Galaxy Z5’sip 5’s screen.
Best of all, the Motorola Razr Plus is available in more colors than ever before, with a total of four colorful options. These include Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Peach Fuzz, and Hot Pink. These options harken back to when Motorola released a variety of vibrant colors with the Razr V3 in the mid-2000s.
Denote
The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 has a larger cover display thanyear’syear’s Razr Plus and doesn’t require any upgrades; the larger external screen ceMotorola’srola’s dominance in flip phones. This is what a flip smartphone looks like. Once you tryou’llyou’ll realize that no other flip phone can match its stunning cover display.
Both screens on the Razr Plus 2024 are very bright. According to Moto, the large internal screen can reach a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits, while the cover display can reach 2,400 nits. It’s too bright for a phone placed next to the I’ve. I’ve been hit in the face with a bright light several times while checking messages late at night.
The cover screen wraps around the camera lens for a signature Motorola look that Sadidn’tdidn’t apply to the Galaxy Z Flip series. Sometimes, these lenses get in the way, like the Roku TV remote app, where some buttons are hidden. I still think it looks better than the cutout Samsung uses. I wish developers would consider having apps appear on smaller, square screens.
The Motorola Razr Plus 2024, in green, shows the Roku TV app running on the cover display, with the buttons obscured by the camera lens.
Foldable internal displays are flatter than ever won’t wrinkles won’t be visible unless you hold your phone at an angle to the light. Even if you move your finger back and forth, you can hardly feel any wrinkles.
Camera
Motorola Razr Plus 2024 has improved greatly in the imaging department. The 50MP primary sensor is a huge smartphone model’sst year’s model’s Motorola, and Motorola’s new AI-based imaging engine proves quite capable.
The 2024’s plus 2024 images are sharp and detailed, with ample contrast and saturation. This is almost a stark contrast to last year’s Razr, which, despite relying on lifelike color reproduction, often produced flat and lifeless images.
The phone’s white balance is also much improved, and it looks comfortable in most lighting conditions. Low-light images aren’t particularly strong and can be a bit disappointing, but I was able to capture some decent fireworks images on the 4th of July.
The lack of an ultra-wide camera may put some don’t off, but I don’t mind that Motorola switched this camera to a 2x telephoto lens. The 50MP sensor produces images that are just as good as the primary camera and allows the phone to retain incredible detail even at 8x zoom. Both lenses have great natural bokeh but are slightly better in portrait mode.
As usual with the Razr Plus, you can use the cover screen to give you a preview of the image before you take it, which will help you figure out the subject location itself. Of course, Motorola has included some unique features in the camera, such as Adaptive Stabilization, which helps keep videos stable during intense movement, giving it an almost-action experience.
There’s also an easily accessible Action Cam button to help you capture and maintain focus on fast-moving subjects. Motorola is also taking advantage of the clamshell phone form factor with an automatic camcorder that automatically starts recording as soon as the phone is folded 90 degrees, like an old-school camcorder.
This mode also turns the bottom half into a touchpad, so you can easily use your thumb to zoom in and out while recording.
Motorola Razr Plus (2024) Specification
Motorola is only offering one configuration of the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 in the US, UK, and Australia. You’ll get 12GB of RAM everywhere, 256GB of storage in the US, and 512GB of storage in the UK and Australia. That’s plenty of space, especially if you use cloud storage for photos and videos.
The Razr Plus 202 doesn’t skimp on specs when it comes to its two displays. Each screen refreshes at a blazingly fast 165Hz, and brightness levels are extremely high.
Motorola Razr Plus 2024 is the first phone to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset announced earlier this year. Qualcomm says it can still handle more AI tasks than previous Snapdragon platforms.
Battery
The Razr Plus has a 4,000 mAh battery, which is 7.5 percent larger than the Galaxy Z Fl5’s 3,700 mAh cell. The Motorola Razr Plus offers fast 45W charging, but you’ll need to purchase a special charger to use the 45W feature. No charger is included in the box, and the maximum power of the charger is probably no more than 25W, especially if you are upgrading from an iPhone.
We recommend purchasing a new charger. You can charge it in the 10 minutes it takes to get ready for an evening out, and the fast charging speed means you can use your phone for longer.
Software update
Meanwhile, the software has also received many updates. Motorola is still using the same panel configuration as before, but this year it has added an important widget panel. Pinch two fingers together to see an overview of the panels, and tap one of your fingers to jump to that panel.
Meanwhile, the same actions allow you to edit the panel without having to go to Settings. Motorola also added Always-On displays to its phones, something it had largely missed out on last year.
As with the previous Razr+, almost any app can be set up to work on the external screen. However, like last year, not all apps work as expected.
Still, this is a much better approach to external screens than Samsung’s, which will struggle to display non-standard apps on external displays. Motorola prefers to let user agencies handle their app drawers, and I appreciate that.
AI Inside
It’s 2024, so you don’t review a without mentioning its built-in artificial intelligence features. For the Razr+, the AI is most noticeable in the wallpaper. Most notably, Motorola added Style Sync and Magic Canvas. Style Sync allows you to take a photo of an outfit (or anything, really) and create a wallpaper for your phone based on the outfit’s colors outfitters.
Magic Canvas is much more similar to the image creation tools we are familiar with from other AI models. Just type in “heavy metal chi” Ken playing guitar,” and let your p”one create that wallpaper.
Gemini, meanwhile, is accessible from the cover screen, which isn’t much of an issue from last year. Last year, you could still access Google Assistant from the cover screen.
The difference this year lies in the Gemini app, which runs on the external display and provides a real user interface. Last year, a message popped up saying I was talking to Google Assistant, but after responding, the UI disappeared.
In the future, Motorola plans to release the Moto Assistant, which will do all sorts of cool AI things like summarizing and remembering contacts. Without testing it, we don’t know how wdon’tt will work or how useful it will be.
Flip phones aren’t exactly aren’t their great speakers, but the Razr Plus 2024 performs pretty well. There’s quite a There’sboom at maximum volume, but you can hear some distortion, especially in the bass.
For greater clarity, it may be a good idea to keep the volume a level or two below maximum. However, the mids and treble sounds are well-defined and satisfying.
One area where Motorola has improved a lot is haptics. You get much crisper, cleaner vibration feedback, which is great for notifications and inputs. Honestly, it’s a very underused feature that doesn’t get talked about often. I’m very happy to see solid haptic features on the Razr Plus.
Motorola Razr Plus 2024 Price
The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 starts at around $1,000 / £1,000 / AU$1,700, which puts it in the same price range as the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Apple iPhone 15 Pro.
There’s a lot ofThere’sition at this price, but Motorola likes to offer discounts, so if you don’t need to buy a phone right away, I’d wait for a gI’d deal. The Razr Plus 2023 has seen fantastic deals during its first year on the market, including a permanent $300 discount in the US.
A lower price would make this phone an easier choice, but I worry that at this price, it lacks the competitive edge in terms of cameras, long-term software support, and overall durability that make a smartphone worth keeping for longer. I wouldn’t care iwouldn’tut the price by more than 25%.
FAQs
Motorola Razr vs Razr Plus (2024): Which flip phone is worth it?
The Motorola Razr Plus (2024) has a faster charging speed. It also features a larger cover screen and a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. It’s a really great flip phone in every way and an improvement over the previous Razr Plus in almost every way. However, the Razr Plus makes a camera swap that I’m not sure isI’m its favor, especially considering I like vlogging and the camera experience of copying a camcorder. Plus, the Razr Plus hasn’t figured out the secret to long battery life on a flip phone, at least not without using the cover screen all day.
The Razr Plus is a great phone, but is it $300 better than the Razr? I’m not that I’m. The Motorola Razr (2024), on the other hand, hits almost all the right shots and comes at a price that makes it very easy to recommend. Even if the Dimensity 7300X chipset can’t keep up ocan’ter, it’s the biggesit’sessing in the battery life of any foldable flip phone I’ve ever used. I’ve base Razr offers much of the experience of last year’s Razr Pluyear’s I fell in love with, from the larger cover screen to widespread Good Lock-free app support to the light and smooth Hello UX experience that feels like stock Android. It doesn’t have any drawbacks that plagued Motorola’s prevMotorola’sphones.
If Motorola can step up its mediocre software update promises beyond three years of Android support and four years of security patches, any debate over whether the Razr can match the Galaxy Flip series will end.
After all, the company had already listened to too much of our previous design feedback. If you remember the Razr Plus from 2023, you’ll remember that the hinge isn’t ready yet. This time, I started having issues with them loosening up, swinging from left to right, and not opening fully to 180 degrees.
This year is a completely different story. Motorola’s Motorola is a definite no-brainer, and I’m sure the company has had more fun with materials than any other company. The Razr and Razr Plus come with vibrantly colored vegan leather or vegan suede on the back (which I didn’t know existed, and side rails perfectly round out the colorful presentation.
And then there’s Moto, which has finally entered the generative AI race and is setting a different standard for each flip phone. Both the Razr and Razr Plus offer creation wallpaper options, such as matching outfits in Style Sync or creating from a text prompt in Magic Canvas, but you’ll need a premium model for the rest of the bells and whistles.
Only the Razr Plus gets camera tricks like Adaptive Stabilization and Action Shot, and when Motorola launches it, you’ll eventuayou’ll able to pick up features like the ability to summarize notifications and select key information from conversations.
